Bedford Station Quarter - Halcrow's station plans open to the public

8th Mar 2008

From Wednesday 12 March to Friday 14 March 2008, the public will be able to view the proposed plans for Bedford's new Station Quarter.

An outline planning application is to be submitted for the redevelopment of the station, along with new office space and apartments. The Station Quarter will form an exciting part of the town centre's future. Bedford Borough Council and Network Rail are the principal promoters of the scheme.

A public exhibition will take place at Bedford Station on 12th, 13th and 14th March. There will be an opportunity for members of the public to voice their opinions or concerns and participants will be invited to fill out a simple questionnaire. Consultants will be there to answer questions between

  • 7.00am and 10.30am and between 4.30pm and 7.00pm on 12th March and

  • 4.30pm and 7.00pm on 14th March.
  • This mixed use development is designed to reduce dependency on private cars and promote public transport, as well as providing a first class environment in which to live and work.

The key components of the scheme are as follows:

  • Additional car and cycle parking

  • Transport interchange for buses and taxis

  • Additional retail, hotel and leisure facilities
