Bedfordshire's Waste Exchange Expands

9th Aug 2006

A new regional waste material exchange programme has been set-up in partnership with the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and Bedfordshire County Council to help companies and organisations re-use and recycle waste materials.

The free internet-based exchange site allows organisations to advertise and find materials that would normally be thrown away. The free service will help reduce companies waste disposal costs and improve their social and environmental performance.

The Bedfordshire Waste Exchange has been linked to databases of other new and existing county exchanges to form Eastex, the Materials Exchange for the East of England. The exchange aims to prevent reusable waste ending up in landfill and to provide a free or cheaper source of materials. It is a great place for community groups and schools to find all kinds of materials to re-use for play, art and design activities.

Bedfordshire County Councillor Tom Wootton, Cabinet Member for Waste, said "We are committed to reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and it is important to promote reuse of waste. By connecting people, the site can help save money for various private and public organisations. Bedfordshire County Council is pleased to be part of this partnership."

Materials are added to the website every week. For more information, add or search materials, log on to www.bedfordshire-waste-exchange.co.uk
