GBN Helps Companies in Beds, Luton and MK Save £465,776

Eleven companies spanning Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes have made savings totalling £465, 776 by participating in the Green Business Network’s (GBN) Resource Efficiency Action Programme (REAP). This is almost double the Network’s original declared target of £250,000.
In September 2005, the Network received money from government body Envirowise (funded from Landfill Tax) to help local companies save money through reduced waste, energy, water and more efficient production processes.
Under REAP, businesses have received visits from experts to help identify where savings can be made, been given training in Waste Awareness and other relevant areas, and have also had help to measure and monitor cost savings achieved.
The companies involved have come from a broad spectrum of industry sectors, and range from multi-national household names to smaller independent enterprises, including Weber Building Solutions, Charles Wells Brewery, Grundfos Pumps, Degussa Goldschmidt, Hain Celestial UK (formerly Heinz), Forest of Marston Vale, and Harry Major Machine.
Businesses taking part in the programme included those that had already undertaken some resource efficiency measures as well as complete newcomers to the process. All made significant savings.
The original eleven companies will continue to be involved with the REAP project for the next two years and will be joined by many others who have already signed up for next year’s resource efficiency programme.
