Bedford's Quality of Life Higher than Regional Neighbours

27th Sep 2006

A new annual study by Halifax has measured quality of life (QoL) in each area in Britain. This has shown Bedford has a superior standard of living compared to many regional centres including; Milton Keynes, Northampton, Cambridge and Stevenage.

For the first time, we have a better picture of how different areas of the country compare on a range of factors which impact on our well-being. Academics and politicians are devoting more attention to how we feel rather than solely focusing on simple economic measures like GDP, which are increasingly being challenged, as we feel more stressed by the pace and quality of life around us.

The Halifax study focuses on 14 main QoL factors across six broad groups including labour, housing, health, education, urban and physical environment. Factors of note in the study include; percentage of residents in good health, average annual sunshine hours and GCSE performance among others.
