EEDA Recruting New Board Members

8th Jun 2007

'If you had £150 million to help improve the East of England's economy, how would you spend it?'

That's one of the questions being asked today by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), as it searches the region for three exceptional people who can help set the organisation's direction and decide how to spend its annual budget.

"We're looking for three new board members who are passionate about the region, passionate about improving its economy, and passionate about making it a better place to live, work, visit and invest in," said Richard Ellis, EEDA chair. "We are proud of our track record of helping businesses, changing lives and turning round communities, and we want to improve this further, so it's essential that we find the right people for our board."

The regional development agency has three openings on its board to join the twelve existing members. It is specifically looking for two people with strong backgrounds in business, and one person who has extensive local authority experience.

EEDA encourages applications from a broad range of people - to reflect the diverse communities which make up the East of England - all of whom must have a good understanding of the key issues facing the East of England, together with a network of contacts within the region. They must also be open-minded, able to take a broad view across the full range of issues affecting the region, and be strategic thinkers.

Margaret Hodge, minister for industry and the regions, said: "Membership of the board is a crucial role to play in promoting economic success for the region, in reducing imbalances within and between regions, in boosting productivity, and in creating jobs and prosperity. Sound business experience is the basis of leadership of the board."

The current EEDA board includes some of the region's leading business people and representatives from local government, trade unions, higher education and the voluntary sector. This non-executive body brings a wealth of experience and expertise from across the region.

The minimum time commitment for board members is two days per month and they will receive £8,715 per year. Appointments are made on merit and for an initial term of three years.

The closing date for applications to join the EEDA board is Friday 29 June. For more information and to download an application pack visit www.rdaappointments.co.uk or call 08700 435060 for an application pack.
