Colworth Science Park launches virtual office services

Helping SMEs and start-ups boost business

2nd Aug 2011

Colworth Science Park, which is being developed as part of a joint venture between leading property group Goodman and Unilever, has launched a range of virtual office services specifically for SMEs and start-up companies to help them concentrate on growing their businesses.

This is a new initiative for the site, which it hopes will attract small companies in Bedfordshire and beyond that currently work from home, or are expanding into new markets. The services will act as a showcase for The Exchange – the new innovation and enterprise hub at Colworth Science Park and Goodman hopes that as companies grow they will be attracted to take space at the development in the future.

The Exchange virtual office service solutions can provide a dedicated telephone number and voice mail, professional telephone answering and message taking service, call screening, on demand administrative and technical support, business address and mail handling, reduced rates to book the new meeting, training and conferencing facilities at The Exchange and the use of Café Connect facilities.

Dr Sally Ann Forsyth, Director of Colworth Science Park, said: “Virtual office service solutions have become increasingly appealing to start-up businesses and SME’s as many companies are reliant on funding and investment to get off the ground. The ability to offer the impression and support of a full time office without the associated costs, which can be difficult to fund when companies are in the early stages of development, provide proven tangible business benefits to many firms.

Situated between Oxford and Cambridge, Colworth Science Park comprises approximately 500,000 square feet of laboratory, office and ancillary space, which is now complimented by a 54,000 sq ft state-of-the-art innovation and central amenities centre known as The Exchange.

The Exchange’s Innovation Centre provides fully serviced laboratory space and office suites with the flexibility to accommodate large or small occupiers on ‘easy in/ easy out’ leasing terms. A wide range of fit-out options are available from fully fitted wet and dry labs to office and write-up space.

Companies can walk into brand new units ranging from 360 – 3,700 sq ft of laboratory space or 180 – 2,100 sq ft of office suites. Occupiers with large or small individual requirements can also be catered for with bespoke solutions.

Occupiers in The Exchange have direct access to new state-of-the-art meeting and conferencing facilities for up to 200 people and a new café-restaurant – Cafe Connect. This means they can take advantage of ‘pay as you go’ meeting space when they need it to avoid paying higher rent for in-house meeting rooms that are used infrequently.
