'Up and Running'

The Bedford Blues Rugby Club marquee welcomed around 100 guests to the BDA's first Sport and Enterprise networking event June 28th. The audience comprised businesses working in the sector - fitness, health and wellbeing, nutrition, PR and more, as well as research experts and academics.
Peter Radcliffe (England Athletics), Mark Ormerod (SPort England) and Debra Richardson (Primary Care Trust) shared information and knowledge with the audience that potentially could inspire new enterprise. It was a fine summers evening, making the marquee a very pleasant venue. De Montfort University sponsored welcome drinks and the talks were followed by a buffet tea with some very fine desserts.
The BDA has recently won matched funding from EEDA to explore the feasibility of establishing an enterprise hub in the sport, physical activity and health sector. The Bedford area has an excellent reputation for producing talented sports stars and a 4 star rated University (i.e. national standing) for sports science. Enterprise hub activities should esentially enable knowledge transfer between researchers and businesses that could create new business leading to more jobs and wealth in the area.
