Subsidised environmental training and support worth £4,500
13th Nov 2006
Thanks to financial backing from the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and the European Social Fund (ESF) GBN is now able to offer Bedfordshire businesses the chance to take advantage of a fully subsidised extensive business environmental training and on-site support initiative worth more than £4,500.
The Green Business Network (GBN) will manage the project in Bedfordshire, while Linden Consulting will cover Hertfordshire, and the Business Environmental Management Scheme (BEMS) will deal with companies in Cambridgeshire.
Under the Business Environmental Training Initiative Plus (BETI+) project, any business within the three counties can apply to join the programme, which will offer:
• A one-day Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) Waste Awareness Certificate course, which leads to a nationally recognised qualification
• A five-day Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 3 Environmental Management course, which also leads to a nationally recognised qualification
• Three one-day workshops dealing with BS 8555 – phased implementation of ISO 14001
• Three days’ on-site help and advice in how to deal with implementing environmental management systems and how to develop a Business Improvement Plan
• Help to gain certification to either BS 8555 or ISO 14001.
At least 30 companies are expected to go through the full BETI+ programme, with an additional 60 free places available on the CIWM Waste Awareness Certificate course, which helps businesses to reduce the waste they produce.
Many companies are experiencing mounting supply chain pressure to tangibly demonstrate that they have an environmental management system in place, and the BETI+ programme will enable them to do just that.
While the training is offered free of charge, companies signing up for BETI+ will be asked to commit staff time towards meeting the objectives of the programme.
Places are limited, so businesses are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for either the full BETI+ training programme, or the CIWM Waste Awareness Certificate training.
Companies in Bedfordshire should contact Claire Atkins at GBN on 07792 480986 or email: info@gbn-bedfordshire.org.uk or visit the GBN website at www.gbn-bedfordshire.org.uk.
