Bedford Station Quarter

28th Sep 2008

Bedford Borough Council and Network Rail are the principal promoters of the proposal for the redevelopment of Bedford Station Quarter.

The Masterplan creates a new and quality transportation and office gateway to the town, relocating the station to the southern end of Ashburnham Road and improving its attractiveness and connectivity to the town centre.

The emerging proposals include:

  • new business quarter (21,400m2 of offices)
  • public transport interchange
  • residential provision (including affordable housing)
  • new forecourt to the railway station as well as arrangements for bus, taxi, cycle and pedestrian access
  • on and off site highway improvements including a park and ride bus drop off point
  • re-provision of car and cycle parking
  • An outline planning application was submitted in March 2008.

The working party involved in the development of the Bedford Station Quarter are interested in your views. Please let them have your comments…

Disruption: noise, dirt, damage to property by vibration, danger to life

Scale of the proposals: a skyscraper as iconic building a wall of flats, space on the area which will attract people to relax and enjoy lunches in the public open spaces
Are the proposed buildings appropriate or realistic?

Traffic: car parks and access, ‘5 ways’ roundabout, Prebend Street Relief Road, shuttle buses, Park and Ride buses, taxis, slip roads along Ashburnham Road
