Well over 100 businesses are set to benefit from the creation of a the BEDFORD i-LAB at Priory Business Park, Bedford. The news that the funding is now in place gives added momentum to the town’s push to develop itself into a centre for business excellence in the region. The 3,210 square metre building should be complete by late 2004 with The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) contbuting 80 per cent of the cost and Bedford Borough Council providing the remaining 20 per cent.
Innovation centre’s are part of an EEDA programme to stimulate the growth of innovative and high-tech businesses in areas across the Region. Innovation centres are designed to house young companies making high-tech products or offering cutting edge technology services. These companies are often spin-outs originating from university based research.
The BEDFORD i-LAB will provide a wide variety of support to firms including access to business advice specialists, venture capitalists, and the provision of easy in-easy out tenancy agreements. The BEDFORD i-LAB will look specifically to attract and develop small and medium sized businesses in the ICT, medical devices and advanced engineering sectors.
