A new project 'i-vita' has been initiated by Bedford Borough Council to influence the development of the Sport, Fitness, Health and Well-being business sector. The Project is based at the Bedford i-lab but aspires to generate a national and international profile. Go to i-vita website

The Leisure and Tourism sector is a key sector in Bedford, providing growth in jobs over the next 15 years, potentially via NIRAH, Centreparcs, The Forest of Marston Vale Country Park and Rowing Lake development, the Olympics and the Council’s town centre regeneration schemes.

The key goals of Bedford’s i-vita project include:

  • Business start-up

  • Increased business survival and growth rates

  • Job creation

  • Influencing the sharing and transfer of knowledge in

  • particular from HEIs and recognised R&D bases
  • Influencing cluster development

  • Improved area image and inward investment
  • Who can benefit:

  • Individuals / entrepreneurs

  • Early stage businesses

  • Micro businesses

  • Small, medium enterprises

  • Large Firms e.g. spin outs
  • Economic Benefits:

    The project aims to influence the creation of new busineses and growth of existing businesses as well as encouraging businesses to locate in Bedford.

    The project will also influence knowledge transfer which occurs when people network and interact. A series of events, lectures, seminars and a mentoring programme will therefore influence business idea generation. Speakers and lecturers from top Universities, sports organisations and companies will be invited to Bedford. Assistance with finding funding will also be provided.
